Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell, two Rangers loanees, have helped Birmingham City advance to the English Championship promotion play-offs. Keshi Anderson and Jay Stansfield scored to give Chris Davies’ team a 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers.
Dowell was substituted with 12 minutes remaining after assisting Anderson for the opener. Davies played the entire 90 minutes. With two games remaining, Birmingham lead Wrexham at the top of England’s third tier by 11 points.
The top two teams automatically advance to the Championship, while the teams in third through sixth place advance to the play-offs. However, despite the fact that they would need a significant drop in form to finish outside the top two, Birmingham’s victory last night guarantees them at least a play-off spot. Since his arrival at the start of the season, Davies has played a significant role in every competition, making 38 appearances.
Dowell, who left Ibrox in January after being deemed surplus to requirements, has made 16 appearances and contributed three goals and two assists. In light of the anticipated changes this summer, it is unknown whether the pair will remain with Rangers.
